Job Description

The Sr. Communications Manager will serve as the lead for the organization's communications functions, shaping the vision and strategic direction of the communications portfolio in collaboration with the organization's leadership and key partners. The Sr. Manager oversees the communications team's messaging, digital and traditional media, website development and content, events, knowledge management, external outreach and products, branding, technical publications, storytelling, and annual report. The Sr. Manager collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that EngenderHealth's communications are strategic and effective .

This role will lead and manage the implementation of EngenderHealth's communications plan, focused on ensuring clear and compelling print, digital, and other communications about our programs, processes, and impact. They will work with global communications team members, our country office-based communications champions, and other technical and functional leaders across the organization to raise visibility of our work, share programmatic lessons, and support resource mobilization.

The Communications Sr. Manager is integral to our programmatic and fundraising efforts, and requires an understanding of our various stakeholders to ensure that we are reaching them effectively. They will have an in-depth understanding of communications and marketing principles, and have applied these to enhance organizational visibility, improve donor relations, and increase revenue.

The Sr. Manager reports to the Chief of Staff, works closely with counterparts and partner organizations, and serves as thought partner to key departments and country offices internally.

Essential Functions:In partnership with the organization's senior leadership and communications team, manage messaging and external brand, including ensuring consistent language, tone, and branding for all externally-facing products and platforms.Provide strategic guidance and support to the communications team and broader organization on messaging, talking points, and branding.Manage communications budget, staff, vendors, and workflow.Adapt and execute an integrated communications strategy and annual work plan that makes the best use of communications resources, platforms, and channels, and ensure that efforts best position EngenderHealth to achieve our strategic priorities.Oversee design and implementation of the team's editorial calendar, including writing, editing, design, translation, and dissemination of digital content (blogs, stories, etc.) and create communications plans as needed to support the organization's work.Provide creative direction and lead the content development, production, and dissemination of the organization's Annual Report.Develop and manage strong relationships with external partners to position EngenderHealth work with key stakeholders.Work closely with partners to identify strategic media relations opportunities and respond to media inquiries.Develop a sophisticated content and email marketing strategy to drive traffic to EngenderHealth's website and support philanthropic efforts and donor engagement.Develop content for communications materials such as op-eds, press briefings and releases, talking points, external presentations, and other materials.Ensure EngenderHealth brand remains consistent and timely.Monitor and analyze web and email metrics to enhance traffic and participation in virtual platforms and to support conversion of potential donors.Support fundraising and direct marketing strategies in collaboration with the philanthropy team and ensure alignment of all communications messages across the organization.Represent EngenderHealth at meetings, conferences, and events, as well as with the media, as needed.Stay current with online communications, social media, digital fundraising, and other industry standards and trends.Work with country teams to support communications priorities, elevate local voices, and develop compelling stories to amplify across all channels.Coordinate with key donors on donor-related requirements, contribute to proposal communications plans and branding strategies and marking plans (BSMPs).Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must meet the following requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.Bachelor's degree required (Master's preferred), in communications, public relations, journalism, international development, international health, or related.Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience managing an organization's communications or external relations functions, including proven experience in conceptualizing messaging and writing, editing, and publishing communications products for tailored audiences; 10+ years preferred.French language skills desirable.Extensive experience writing for a variety of media.Knowledge and passion for sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender equality, with networks within the community and/or adjacent communities.A collaborative, team player with experience working in a matrixed environment with limited resources.Ability to provide vision and strategy, as well as manage and contribute to everyday execution, including content development.Ability to provide strategic direction and manage processes and systems to incorporate input, garner buy-in, and develop quality outputs, while adhering to a set schedule.Exceptional managerial skills and a demonstrated ability directly and indirectly managing staff and consultants across a global structureA record of developing effective communications materials that advance business goals/organizational strategy, including digital, print, and A/V materials.Experience developing messaging, talking points, and related resources to be used by leadership and staff.Stress tolerance and resilience; sense of humor; values kindness and positivity in the workplace; highly organized; attention to detail; deadline-oriented and ability to work under pressure with multiple and shifting priorities.Ability to drive EngenderHealth's event engagement strategy for conferences, webinars, and other events.Ability to support country and program offices to develop story gathering and media relations capacities.Mastery of Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams.Ability to travel internationally as needed.Ability to build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, producers, bloggers, social networkers, online news outlets, and published thought leaders around the world.Basic skills in web design and publishing, preferably using WordPress. Advanced skills desirable.

PREFERRED SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS:Experience in nonprofit sector, reproductive health/family planning, women's rights, human rights, global health, and/or international development.Experience with USAID, including particularly with branding and marking requirements and 508 compliance.Supervisory experience and experience procuring and managing consultants/vendors.Demonstrated skills in photo and video editing, graphic design, and content management using (for example) Canva, Photoshop, Constant Contact, Salesforce
