Position Summary:

LBDN is seeking our next great team member to serve as our Communications and Fundraising Manager.

For over 111 years, LBDN has been a proven leader in the nonprofit and early childhood education (ECE) fields. Our mission, to “provide high quality early care and education to young children of working families”, is more critical now than ever, as the need for quality ECE services grow and research continues to prove the impact ECE has on the forward trajectory of young children and their families.

The Communications and Fundraising Manager will lead, coordinate, and successfully manage communications and fundraising initiatives for Long Beach Day Nursery (LBDN). The right person for this position will love developing internal and external communication materials and campaigns to inform, educate, and inspire all key stakeholders to support LBDN’s mission and vision.

Role and Responsibilities

External Communications (35%) : Develop and implement all external communication strategies

Establish the organization’s strategic marketing plan and communications calendar and execute efforts to meet the organization’s enrollment, staffing and donor goals.

Lead the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including but not limited to newsletters, annual reports, and website content.

Develop and implement a strategy to amplify LBDN’s visibility and brand awareness.

Gather content by taking photos and videos at sites and during events with staff, students, donors and public and private partners.

Craft content for social media and email marketing platforms.

Maintain and update mailing lists.

Internal Communications (20%) : Facilitate LBDN’s internal communications to connect, inform, recognize and motivate employees.

Create bi-monthly staff newsletter.

Communicate important internal initiatives.

Lead and advise branches in brand management and image.

Coordinate distribution of LBDN branded products.

Contribute to LBDN Health and Wellness initiatives.

Fund Development (30%):

Engage, recognize, and expand LBDN’s individual donor base

Steward individual donor engagement.

Manage all signature events, including administration, fundraising logistics and execution, in collaboration with Executive Director and Board Development Committee.

Manage donor appreciation and recognition program.

Lead efforts in partnering with local organizations for in-kind donations.

Manage and record all in-kind contributions for events, programs, and facilities.

Manage DonorPerfect database including preparing and mailing of acknowledgement letters, and updating donor information.

Support grant efforts: track and calendar key reporting dates and file and organize documents in LBDN database.

Volunteer Coordination (15%):

Maintain and increase meaningful partnerships and organizational support through volunteerism

Recruit and support interns and volunteers in collaboration with Programs team.

Coordinate and manage corporate volunteer opportunities.

Support Board of Directors involvement in special events.

Create and maintain Board packet and files.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree preferably in communications or related fields

5 – 7 years of relevant work experience in communications; Nonprofit experience with an understanding of donor engagement preferred

Extensive experience and knowledge in creating and posting via social media

Experience developing communication campaigns including fundraising and engagement strategies

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities, strong time management skills

Confident communicator and excellent interpersonal skills, ability to listen to and effectively communicate with colleagues and donors

Must exhibit strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

Proficiency with communications and project management tools, Microsoft Office & Google Workspace applications, Canva – understanding of DonorPerfect or similar database preferred

Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator experience preferred

Photography and video creation experience preferred

Compensation:

$65,000 – $80,000; commensurate with experience.
